An ex-Nickel Plate Road (New York, Chicago & St Louis Railroad) boxcar now used by Norfolk Southern for storage, sits in the railroad's Calumet Yard on the far south side of Chicago. The Nickel Plate has been gone for almost 60 years, having been merged into the Norfolk & Western, which itself was merged into the Southern Railway, to form today's Norfolk Southern, in 1982. I was completely stunned to find this!

Nice- I like catching the afternoon Carbondale train (the outbound Illini) at 18th, 55th, 95th or 115th Streets. At any of those places, there's usually a four way meet between it, two outbound Metra Electric District trains, and an outbound South Shore Line train, plus CN freight M338 is usually either right behind or right before the Illini, depending on the towerman at 16th St.
