Some meatware is only supposed to live a specified amount of time. This is pretty much right out of Blade Runner.
Beast heads can theoretically live much longer than their warranty, if given proper maintenance. Some owners grow fond of their beasties and want to keep them alive. Like you would with a car or pet you had for a long time. Though not every beastie even lives beyond its warranty... not rarely will one die in the line of duty.

Considering there are some cars that exist now that were made when queen Victoria was still alive, one can definitely extend things way past when they were expected to live for but yes it does take dedication. Yes I am a car guy. Also protocol shit indeed, but I do agree that being rude to D would be a very bad time.
