Why Being a Furry is Actually Really Cool and Not Lame
I don't actually know what posessed me to write this, but I felt like I really needed to, and I guess this is enough of a departure from my other stuf that I think it works for april fools. I started writing this as kind of a joke, but as I kept going I got really into it, so that's why the opening paragraphs are kinda weird and jokey.
I'll be honest, I don't quite know how I feel about this, but I don't think it's bad :)

This deserves more attention, an interesting read! I view the issue people have with the furry fandom as coming from two main aspects (A) just open the front page of FA and you'll see and (B) some people have a need to hate and look down on others, it's not socially acceptable to discriminate against people based on race, sex, sexuality etc any more so they need another target and furries are one group regarding that, it's the same reason why jokes and comments about people with ginger hair are still considered just fine but really it's no different that picking someone out because of their skin colour.
Long story short some people are just jerks but the furry-fandom does itself no favours with its sometimes excessive weirdness.

Pardon me, I just stumbled across your post and I hope you don't mind if I leave a few thoughts.
So I used to be a big participant in the fandom in the early to mid 2010s. I have a lot of strong feelings about the fandom itself. I have a lot of care and empathy for those in the community, but I've come to believe, from personal experience, that the fandom is not a good place (or state) to be in. The sexual aspect of furrydom is a huge one. While it does not comprise the whole and describe everybody, it certainly cannot be ignored.
Who are the biggest artists on furaffinity? Porn artists. Who are the busiest vendors at conventions? Those that sell adult products (if allowed). If you turn off the safe filters, your feed will be overwhelmed with smut. And it does stuff to people. I've lost count of the number of times somebody enters the fandom with innocent intentions and they inevitably start partaking in the more salacious parts of it.
An artist will start out in the fandom and they will have a "No porn" rule. But they relax it to "I can do some adult or suggestive content, but no porn." until finally, "I'm selling porn now and I love it!". I've seen behavior on here that qualifies as grooming. I've seen social contagions spread like a plague and I've felt the allure of them myself. Maybe my own experience and struggles are tainting my perception, but I would not downplay the more controversial parts of the community. There's a CSI episode about the fandom that, while it certainly exaggerates and amplifies the worst part of it, isn't too far off.
(To clarify, I'm not trying to pass judgement on those in the fandom, hope my comment does not come off as such.) These problems aren't exclusive to the fandom, they pervade other art communities as well. but the fandom has a unique brand of insanity that has me believing that at the very least, it's a sketchy place to be in.
