So, has anybody brought up how the whole alpha thing only happens when wolves from different families are forced together in captivity? And is it relevant?

It actually is relevant! ^^ Though lycanthropy is certainly hereditary and pack families do exist, modern lycan packs are by and large just big amalgamations of rogues from pack families that have gotten too big and lone bitten carriers that stick together for survival. This coupled with their dual nature —having both human and wolf sensibilities that fluctuate according to the lunar cycle— means that some manner of order must be established in these packs. Since they fall into the hierarchy behavior with such frequency, it has become expected in their culture. The Bloodhounds Pack is actually the perfect example of this, as none of the members are biologically related and all have been forced in one way or another into their circumstances.
