I put blood in a layer all it's own, then set the face layer to multiply so the color bled through, then 'cut' the color out of the face layer. Your pic helped a lot, not just on placement but color of healing as well.
With the gemstone, I wanted it to look like it works with the scope, making the sniper and rifle more integrated. Blue team would have a sapphire.
