"Keiserreich" is a big fan-made mod of Hearts of Iron IV, the original of which is straightforwardly a WW2 game. If I remember correctly, a playthrough of Keiserreich tends to go longer since it takes place from the 1930s until the 1960s or 70s, or at least an alternate version of those decades after which the Central Powers had won WW1.
I can't speak for Hua Sonrin, but I wonder if this scenario is almost like an above-ground version of Run Silent Run Deep... where it may be during WW2, but early enough that WW1 legacy hardware was still cost-effective and 'good enough'.
