i recommend to you tat from the very beginning don't use the plastic nibs, use the felt nib (this give you a better paper like sensation) cause is softer than the plastic nib, and use a smudge guard too from the beginning to maintain clean your screen, i make my own smudge guard from micro fiber ( actually i make 2 XD ) that way protect the screen and attract all the dirt to the smudge guard ^^.
check is this one http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5351367/ ^___^.
i prefer the MF over the lino or other materials, cause this attract the powder that is the first cause of scratches ( i did one at the very beginning ) ^__^.

yes i already know that... it happen to me with the intuos4 already... but in the intuos 4 L lack of the smudge guard... if you have one the dirt don't collect in the felt nib, cause ( in my case ) the simple movement over the tablet with my SG made from micro fiber attract all the powder and dirt... its true that i need to wash it every 2 days ( before the Smudge Guard i didn't realize how much the dirt accumulate in the tablet... until the tip start to get stuck over the strokes ) but for that i did 3 smudges, that let me work the whole week without need to wait for my SG to get dry.
and now i use the SGuard to work with my intuos4 too... the felt just can be abrasive if you let your screen dirt... by the way the flex nib ( are that black with white center right ) or the standard nib or the stroke nibb for itself don't make a scratch... but any of it just need a small grain of hard powder to make a scratch... the nibs just need to hit the powder over the tablet or the screen once and the scratch its done... not mater if the nib retain the powder or release it... the scratch is done.
cause that the safest way is to maintain your screen perfectly clean, that was the reason i did my own SGuard-Cleaner ^^.

well my flex have the white center ( that that come with my intuos 4 pen... ^^) and in the wacom site i see still the same in the packages ^^. black and white center... maybe there are a new one... the only totally black i know indeed is the standard nib for intuos4 that have some texture over it ^^.( there are standard white also ^^).
hehe yes me too, i share the nibs between all my pens XD, but i was thinking in buy separated... some like the professional accessory kit ^^.
i think that maybe they not give you so many nibs , just cause the nibs endure a lot ^^. i just have changed 1 nib since i have my intuos 4, and most of all change cause i like it to try the other nibs XD, and choose the felt, cause it feels more natural for me, like a pencil over paper ^^ ( including the sound over the surface XD )

i like a little more the intuos 4 pro accessory kit ,... but only changes a little about the accessory kit for intuos3.
1 Standard Black Nib,
5 Stroke Nibs,
5 Hard Felt Nibs,
5 Flex Nibs,
1 Wide Body Grip (no hole for the button),
1 Standard Grip (no hole for the button),
1 Side Switch Replacement,
and 1 Nib Removal Tool
(in the beginning this same accessory kit carry 20 nibs. 5 black nibs too, but it was reduced to 1 ^__^ , but i have many standar. so i don't care XD )
carry an extra nib, but changes the felt for flex nibs ^___^.
but if you are interested only in the nibs , can spend the same money only in the nibs and can buy only the specialized nibs, like the stroke nib , or the flex nib, and got twice the amount of nibs, letting at side the grips and the hard and standard nibs ^__^.
