“You can sleep, safe and sound… knowing I am around…” Kaa continued to serenade his pretty pet with his cooing hisses, beginning to wrap hefty coils around Sylvia’s drooping body.
As his sonorous suggestion reached her ears, the draw of slumber began to take hold. Her eyelids became heavier, her limbs going limp and slumping against the forming cocoon of scaly cushioning. “Safe…sleep…” she slurred happily, in a soft whisper.
But then a brand new paradox emerged in the poor girl’s tired mind. How was a helplessly hypnotized little dogcub like her supposed to go to sleep, when there were still so much wonderful, mesmerizing color for her eyes to drink in? Her eyelashes flittered and fluttered as her thoroughly enslaved brain battled between the two commands. Obediently, she kept her eyes open to follow the swirling whirlpools of light that controlled her. But equally as obedient was her struggle to close her eyelids, as her master’s sweet song demanded she do in order to surrender to sleep.
“Slip into silence and slumber… Sail on a silver mist…” Again the song played with Sylvia’s desires. But as the coils wrapped over more of her body, tighter and more encompassing, it became more and more clear what her master’s intent was; the confusion was meant to further tire her already taxed mind out. She was so busy thinking about what to do that the answer had now become obvious.
Stop thinking, it’s far too exhausting.
And thus her thoughts stopped. All intelligence washed away in favor of mindless bliss. Faithful pets need not consider their master’s commands, only follow them. Stop thinking. Obey.
“Sleep…sleep…” she tried to cumbersomely conjure from her lips.
“Slowly and surely your sense shall cease to resist!” And cease they did. She was there now, on the precipice of that long, last fall into the heavenly depths of trance. Sylvia’s eyes now shut, but just a hair’s breadth away from complete sleep, she began to snore, making adorable little noises like a drowsy puppy dog.
