I think the "shoes" are a popular design, at the old con FURence we used to have a pannel on how to ergonomically design this for anthros, similar to the Dinosaucer's cartoon, where the chair back had a frame that jogged to one side and then back to teh center, to allow for both back support AND a tail. And with talons like this guy has, yea definitely open toed, but could you make a society where he would still have USE for those talons?

With claws like that, maybe open toed? But being digitgrade, something that lets the heel-ankle rest easy for extended standing sounds right as well.
