River has a fairly simple story to their name. Unlike the vast majority of reptiles, he didn't grow up on the beautiful, tropical islands of Sang Fein, but in a forest-swallowed town of Graywood, built alongside the oldest arcane college in Alyraen. No one is quite sure how, or why they arrived at the doorstep the Graywood Abbey of the Arcanity, but the kindly abbot simply couldn't bring himself to turn away the small lizard. Their upbringing was fairly straightforward, aside from the natural curiosity and occassional case of prejudice from the locals seeing a single reptile among their population, but at an early age the kobold proved to have a mind for arcane knowledge, so fairly quickly they were sent off to the college to learn how to be an arcane scribe, one of the more prestigious positions a member of a Beast race could hope to achieve in Grenora without high connections.

While a bit clutzy, daydreamy, and sometimes innocently niave, River took to the work right away with their shockingly talented mind. They could remember an incredible amount of information quickly, and within a couple years was a walking, talking encyclopedia of magic knowledge, despite only being able to personally perform the most absolutely basic of spells. Prep-work was their real talent. Collecting and tending to ingrediants, writing scolls, organizing libraries, and aiding in more tiring spellwork. As an assistant and scribe, they were also taught how to cook, clean, and perform other chores an archmage would need help with.

As for their demeanor, and attire, it is the product of the nation they grew up in. A beast race, especially a more meek one like kobolds, were expected to be subserviant to humans in most regards. While treated well, certain stigma and cultural norms nudged River into a more submissive nature. Thanks to their sharp mind and perception, hey quickly learned that acting in a more effeminate manner granted better responses from the many humans they worked with, and this realization is what slowly evolved into the properly fomboyish personality they obtained by the time they graduated, complete with a higher, softer pitch to their voice, and attire normally more fitting for a female arcane student than a male. They found that many of the older, powerful mages, the types they were training to serve, seemed to enjoy seeing the kobold is slightly more... revealing clothing, and they soon for a perfect outfit that was modest on a first glance, but offered quite a view for those who gazed a little longer.

However, despite the complex and often unfair world River grew up in, they found their niche and have never felt any reason to dislike it. Thankfully, River ended up in the far more gentle hands of a kindly, more mature archmage who took them in right away in an almost fatherly way, and the kobold has quickly taken to their new work with an energetic gusto!

If only their new master wasn't so distracting, devilishly handsome...

I got this kobold a while ago but it took me some time to decide what I wanted to do with em! Eventually settled on a femboy magic assistant cause they just look so PRECIOUS <3
