Poor Sammy, I feel sorry for her..
She's wearing the cone of shame because she's got an itchy spot on her leg, and she keeps chewing it to the point that it bleeds. We've done everything possibly to get it to heal. Now that we have this cone, hopefully it will heal fine.. Now that she cant dig at it anymore.

Labs usually have grass allergies.. In fact, most dogs with webbed feet have trouble with grass. She gets the same spots on her feet, but we usually get them healed up pretty quickly (Before they get this bad). This one's higher up on her leg, and she's been digging at it and making it worse. so the cone was a necessity.
Definitely do that. I hear you on the money loud and clear. It doesn't have to be a fancy brand; Iams or something super basic will work just fine. Just make sure it's a lamb & rice formula. L&R tends to be just a *touch* more expensive, but only by about a buck or two. And that's cheaper than the vet or a new cone or ointment for her sore spots.
I'll upload a few pictures into my scraps.

But I bet it's just her learning to vocalize and just generally being a puppy though. Mickey was violently rolling on the floor to itch it.

You get HBO with that dish? O....o wait.
My boxer had a tumor removed years ago when he was still with us, and when we brought him to the vet to have them take off his cone, they said it was the filthiest one they'd ever seen. So they kept it.
And mounted it on a wall.
Hohoho.
