So this was an experiment pretty much, I caught up on my commissions and wanted to try something new and found this new technique, or rather a new application of techniques I've already been using, and I got excited about the idea,
so i figured I'll try it out, it wont take too long probably, let's go, in and out, 20 minute adventure, and here i am over a week later :I
I think one of the big issues for me is that I draw in these ridiculous formats, this is technically A4 paper sheet in photoshop, so its 8910 pixels by 6300 pixels, keep in mind uploading it online often times lowers the resolution, sometimes by quite a lot, i think only patreon doesn't lower the resolution, but deviantart, twitter and especially furaffinity, does lower it on upload (or requires you to do it manually instead).
Drawing in scales like that is a bit different, any imperfections that in a sketch on a smaller scale look fine become visually problematic when enlarged, so i get bogged down in fixing things and adjusting and adding more detail since on format this large I can zoom in very close and add stuff etc... Also drawing some things that might be easy in smaller form is more difficult enlarged for similar reasons.
And then i think to myself, is it even worth it? most people just check the image out while browsing for few seconds and that's it, I doubt anyone will zoom in to see any details and appreciate them, so even if they were wonky or unpolished no one would notice. For instance those damn shop windows I made with drapes behind them, took me many hours to make that work, and then in line art stage that took long time to render as well, and it looks nice when you zoom in but who will though. Even with my commission work I am unsure if its worth it to draw in this format. Maybe I need to reconsider it entirely and get used to much smaller formats, maybe that will improve productivity and speed.
There are other artists out there that would make a street scene like this in few hours maybe, while it took me a week, its embarrassing, and untenable. I am also still looking for full time work as well since its patently clear I wont be able to live on from my art, i just don't know how to make it economically viable.
I thought if I would be very flexible with subjects/topics and such I could make it workable somehow.
I have also considered trying out some of these new AI tools in hopes it might improve speed/productivity but its very controversial, and I don't even know where to begin with all this anyway, so for now I'm just thinking about it.
Anyway, sorry for venting, I'm kinda stressed out lately and I think I'm getting a bit sick. I will color this one and maybe shade it in the future, but I have another commission now so after the coloring ill get to that instead
EDIT: Turns out I was wrong about DA and it does not lower the resolution, I got confused, sorry about that one!
