Well I don't know what technique you're using for the colouring but I'll show you what I do to make things look luminescent:

Might look into all that sometime! At the moment though I'm using a pretty bare bones paint program that leaves you to mostly do things by hand, and honestly given the purpose of my art it's enough for me. I'm happy enough with the glowy effects I got out of the other colors, the yellow just didn't turn out as well. If I'd spent more time and redrawn the layer I probably could have gotten it better but most of these alternate colors are just afterthoughts made by some simple color swaps rather than me going back to redraw the whole layer from scratch.
