“I’m not wearing it!” The tiny bear yelled, red faced and pouting.
“Brigsby Arlo Button ,” his Daddy scolded, “you promised you would be good today,”
“You didn’t say we were going to the photo place again or that I would have to wear… THAT!”
Brigsby pointed accusingly at the ghoulishly cute bunny outfit in the hands of the tall Leporidae photographer. Why did he have to get more dumb pictures taken just because it was Easter!? The Christmas cards were bad enough and daddy had printed dozens!
“We drove an hour to get here,” the large bear picked Brigsby up.
“NoooOOOooo” he pushed his tiny hands against his daddy’s chest in a futile attempt to get away “You just wanna embarrass me!”
“No, I just want nice photos to show Nana & Papa where you’re not pouting,” Daddy managed to undo the top button of the toddler’s onesie before he started to kick.
“You’re a meanie!”
“And you’re being dramatic, little man.”
Brigsby let out a guttural screech.
“Little Bear” the photographer interrupted in a sing-song voice. Brigsby was ready to turn his wrath towards his new nemesis but instead was met with colourful, plastic Easter egg. Quickly, the Rabbit gave it a shake. A cacophony of tiny bell jangled inside.
Almost immediately the sweet melodic jingles wormed their way into his ear and made his head all buzzy. The rabbit continued to shake the egg softly but rhythmically. With every little chime , it got harder and harder for the small bear to remember why he was angry.
He whined and tried to look away but the playful tinkling pulled his attention back to the plastic bauble before him. The longer he stared the more the patterns on the egg seemed to swirl and dance in time with the bells.
“Wan’ it, Dada”
“Can you ask nicely?”
“P’ease” he mewled impatiently while grabbing at the colourful egg. The small bear couldn’t understand why but he desperately needed to hold it, but he did.
“Only good boys get to hold the egg, are you a good boy?”
Brigsby nodded enthusiastically, “I goo’”
The photographer smiled and placed the plastic toy in his tiny hands. A childish euphoria washed over him as he grinned his almost toothless smile. He stared at the egg for only a few moments before it found its way into his mouth.
“There we go,” Daddy chuckled, “Now let’s get you into your special Easter costume…”
