But the shorthand is he is an independent T'vaoan captain, not by choice, who flew and traded during the war. Often with the Insurrection and Covenant forces but very rarely a few distant UNSC contacts as well. He is more of a mechanic rather than a captain as early in his life he was captured by the Spice Sisterhood, a wide spanning Kig-Yar slavery and drug empire. Forced to work on keeping their hodgepodge engines from melting down. He learned quickly back then to just be quite and work. That way the females would beat you less. But after being 'rescued' by a pirate crew he was put on the same tasks again. Working with his head down and mouth shut to upgrade the old Kig-Yar engines with Covenant components to make them much faster than normal. The female T'vaoan captain seemingly taking notice of his quiet efficiency - in fact she took so much notice that she pulled him aside one day and got them two children from the experience.
But before he had much time to ponder that Zahl, his new Mistress, took the kids and herself onto a newly acquired Covenant vessel for raiding. Leaving Nek as the impromptu Captain of the Speed Streak. It was a tough transition period for Nek and his crew but they managed to pull through and started to take on trade and transfer jobs to give them all time to get to know each other. Despite not being trained to be a pilot or Captain Nek essentially made the Engines in the new ship himself. So knew what they could take and quickly grew quite skilled in flying his way out of danger. Having to learn quickly how to talk his way out of the same and too his credit he did learn quick. But he could never learn how to get a taste of raiding and combat like so many of his species. Having been the victim of raiding and violence so often in his life he just couldn't stomach inflicting that on others anymore. A coward of a captain who despite his reservations did earn the trust and respect of his crew.
During the war he occasionally acted as an interpreter and translator for various trade deals between the Pirate fleet, though they preferred Independant Sailors, and Human contacts. Often becoming more famous for this rather than his engineering or piloting skills. But his name being spread across Kig-Yar space was exactly what Zahl wanted of him. To grow beyond the nervous wreck she found him as into a leader. So rather than a single picture of both his children in the locket around his neck as the war neared its end she joined with Nek again. And with her combat skills and Neks negotiating skills they formed a very effective team to raise their children and lead the Pirate Fleet into a proper faction for the new world everyone soon found themselves in.
Which is where you find Nek here. At one of his main stalls doing what he knows best. Talking and selling to make those numbers go up and up. Armed with a large assortment of human equipment that he purchased legitimately more out of pride rather than a need. A UNSC leather jacket, Captain's bars, and a tac-pad. To go with his civilian model of M6 Magnum. Behind him a wide selection of Human or Alien goods from all over the galaxy. And if there is nothing what you need here? Not to worry. Nek has connections all over in the Fleet. He can get you what you need. And get you a good deal on it!

Many thanks fellow child of the stars! Glad you like the silly merchant Kig - and I just hope that 343 finally gives us some more juicy Kig info to enjoy.
But until then thankfully we got some great members of this community keeping the lizard birds popular and fun :D

Oh very much so! Pirates and mercenaries especially of the Kiggle species tend not to mind if the goods are hot. They tend to be outside the law already. So a good deal we can make. Especially if its stolen Covenant stuff. Very little love loss for one thousand years of subjugation.
