Paouoish Rahhdool - Konzeptstudien
My Star Wars fanfiction comic is in good development. But now I am a bit at a loss about the character Paouoish Rahhdool. Jedipedia, Wookieepedia and co. don´t state his species, so I tried to come up with an own design idea. Since my SW fanfic is "furry", I wanted to portrait Voolvif Monn´s master as an anthropomorphic character. I first thought of a Wookiee, but we allready had a Wookiee-Padawan in Clone Wars. So I started to experiment arround with various species.
I would like to ask arround my watchers here, what their thoughts are about my sketches, if a certain character would work or not and also I am open to suggestions and additional ideas.
Here we go with the first steps:
1. Paouoish Rahhdool as a Dug. I thought it would be nice to have a Dug Jedi, since I never have heard about one featured allready in the SW media officially so far. (If there is allready a Dug Jedi mentioned, I would be glad, if you could let me know^^.)
Since Dugs have a special body anatomy, I thought he could wield two lightdaggers instead of lightsabers.
2. Paouoish Rahhdool as Nelvannian. This race was suggested to me to try out and I think it is an interesting race. If I wouldn´t know it any better, I could assume, that the Pandora Navi are isnpired by this race.

Nice Nelvanian ... wonder if he'll have a war mask or those special leech-warpaint body markings? A personal vision in the Nelvaan caves like Anakin did? A lightsaber spear or some form of shield or net? Or if he'll be hunted down and captured for biological and technological experimentation like the other captured males, leaving the women and children to go from gathers to hunter-gatherers? Perhaps searching for a cure to reverse the captured males' mutation? Or something more original like using his tracking/hunting skills to hunt down and capture enemies? Maybe feel the force of nature in the ground with his barefeet to better know his surroundings, similar to Togruta Culture?
Sorry, I got a little carried away. Glad to see you trying the Nelvaanian race out. :)

Nothing wrong with getting carried away, if one likes a certain topic.
I admit, except for the screenshots of the Nelvaanians, I have no idea about their background story. Maybe some info scraps here and there from looking up some stuff in Jedipedia and other similar homepages.

A couple episodes of the initial 2D animated Clone Wars is their main showing. Nelvaan is a snow planet. The males act as hunters and women as gatherers. The aliens with the metal collars and the chest dials captured the males and tried to make them mutated mindless soldiers they could control with space gun arms - shackled in a liquid tube that fattened them. They also had an Elder Shaman and a Lady Leader. They mostly wore brown with red/white/black designs with either moccasins ore barefeet.
Some wore very large masks and feathers. They believed Anakin to be something that Translated to 'Ghosthand' and believed he was the one destined to free them. They used special leeches to give him warpaint on his body and face. During his infiltration in came to a cave where he was confronted by a caveman-like vision of his downfall to Vader but believed it to just being a dream, though he does give in to the Darkside and kill the captors. The men of that tribe were rescued but permanently altered, using decorative shields to cover their missing arms.
You can probably find episode clips on YouTube, unless you have retro thrift stores. Wookipedia also has descriptions and translations of language and names.

I may be missing some things due to trying to remember this stuff from just memory alone. Apart from the show only sporadic mentions and other warriors mentioned ... like one who aided the Jedi and Clones in Tracking.
(I think the name Nelvaan had something to do with Canada or a worker named Nelvaan ... maybe Wookiepedia knows in the Trivia Section or something) :)

I think I finally took notice of your poses for long-robed individuals is very specific in particular. Since you gave it to even me!
I take notice because the pose is very similar, even down to the very positioning of the feetpaws that I see!
You seem to like them in that particular pose of standing tall and somewhat reserved, regal and beautiful, but yet, maybe not so. Maybe more of a symbol of bourgeois status but not royalty, just someone with notable amounts of money, or maybe wealthy in terms of experience.

Thanks.
Maybe the reason is much simpler: Physics. A character has only limited options of positioning the feet on the ground to make it believeable and not for to fall down to the ground. The Nelvaan version of Rahhdool looks to his left side while still in the action of walking. Such a pose is seen, if a character is adressed to from the side and is at the moment halting in his course.
Plus characterdesign sketches often chose such poses, maybe a little hommage to the manner models are doing while being on the catwalk.

T-That...f-flatters me...I didn't expect you to draw like as if I was displaying myself on a catwalk, though obviously you drew me in a way that more so looks like I am enjoying the sights I am seeing. >///////<
The long-robed one looks good by the way, b-but that's...my own bias speaking because I love kimonos that hang down that far, so take that however you want. Though I feel mine is less of value because of said bias.

Drawing characters that way makes them simply more vivid and understandable for the audience, more so then the simple stiff front view or side view.
Drawing a character in some kind of action, even if it is simple walking, gives the watcher allready a basic idea on what to expect from this character.
Serene characters express serene poses, villains spread their legs a little, bending a little forward, the fists clenched, to express being dangerous. Noble characters stand upright, chest protruded, eyes high, less movement with the arms, feet positioned in a way that makes them weightless or maybe even similar to dancing.
This all is bodylenguage. I learned that all from observing. Once realized, one will see the differences right away.

That is fair and true, the latest picture you drew of me did have a feeling of lightheartedness because well...that is me at the core.
Also true, body language is very important, even down to the feet. I can show you more artwork in notes if you want, to see more sides to the Typh!

The Dugs do have quite a distinctive look to them with their anatomy and you'd definitely have a lot of potential for showing off a unique lightsabre duelling style and acrobatics. With Sebulba as the prominent example the Dugs also seem to often get portrayed as rogues or 'bad guys' so would also be good to see a Jedi in that regard.
As Pirates314 stated there's a lot of story potential with a Nelvaanian Jedi and also if Paouoish Rahhdool was a Nelvaanian, as a fellow canid/lupine humanoid might have initially been more comfortable for Voolvif Monn, maybe having a fatherly relationship with him to begin with.
