Softball manager figured that really stretchy coyote I draw now and then (see https://www.furaffinity.net/view/50978561/ and https://www.furaffinity.net/view/50273203/ and other pictures) would be a great asset to the team: there's no way they could be picked off as a base runner. Ah, but first you have to get on base, and what happens when you're too elastic to be able to pick up the stupid bat?
It's fun drawing the stretchy coyote in predicaments where they can't do things, although I probably peaked with that first caught-in-the-escalator one. Ah well. This picture I think I did well with the why-me look up to the heavens. Hoisting the bat would have been better if they were farther from the bat's position stubbornly on the ground. In the rough sketch it looked all right but the more this was exaggerated the better; as it is, you could think I was just bad about relative limb lengths (which I am).
The little shelf for the bat was added post-inking when I realized the bat wasn't level with the sneakers anymore, which is why there's such an odd structure there at all.
Fun fact: no rule of professional baseball currently requires the batter to bring a bat to the plate, because nobody has ever thought of a way to hack the game by not bringing one. Coyote maybe needs to hope for a walk or hit-by-pitch.

Oh, could be literally anything, up to and including getting their arms snagged on the foul pole. Probably a hazard for miles around.
... I'm reminded of playing softball in high school, and getting a good solid hit but letting go of the bat just a little too early so it went flying, a missile aimed right at the third baseman, who fortunately had good reflexes. Coach told me I didn't have to play anymore the second time this happened.
