The Spitfire pilot
This is a birthday present for that Hog Driver,
oldtiger. I happen to know the Colonel appreciates classic warbirds. And I decided to put him in a Spitfire MK V during the Battle of Britain.
Digitally colored by Richard Konkle.
This WAS supposed to be up around the 10th, but Richard was being seriously occupied time-wise playing Uber driver (for free) by a pest in Tucson I call the Lamprey. Often multiple times a day for hours at a time. But Richard made up for the added details in coloring.
Hope you like it Colonel. Belated Happy Birthday.

At least the Spitfire doesn't have a passenger seat.
I can relate. A guy who rode my bus had a seizure and wrecked his car. I got suckered into chauffeuring him to the bus stop every day and home in the evening for almost three months. When the schedule started interfering with my relationship with my girl he got nasty about it. Screw him.

Nah, the Lamprey is a wide variety of urgencies, from ER visits, Doctor visits, "I need to run here for meeting X", Food runs, "I don't want to wait 10 minutes for the next bus" and needing Richard's time to check out what the Lamprey is attempting to create, since in his mind, everything he creates will be picked up by Marvel Studios or Pixar, when in reality, not one thing he's created, actually made any money. Plus the Lamprey's ex-wife is using Richard as a shuttle as well. I asked Richard "Doesn't Joy have other friends with cars?" Richard sighed "Apparently not!" And no, he's not even reimbursed for gas.
The Lamprey always seems to have a "Must do this NOW!" crisis when Richard and I are actually working on something. Which is annoying as fuck!

Amazing how tight those cockpits were. You basically wore the aircraft. I used to know a Canadian Pilot who flew Spitfires during the war. He went to become an airline pilot and a RC modeler after he retired. Was a regular at a flying field I used to fly my models at in the 1980s. Excellent work Rabbi.
I know, amazing how small those aircraft were. Went to a number of CAF airshows and visits to their headquarters in Harlingen TX when I lived in Texas. Been close to the old Warbirds and newer aircraft at some airshows in AZ and did the tour of the museum by Davis Monthan AFB. My stepmom is Austrian and her late husband was a bit older than she is . He flew ME 109's in the war - 17 year old pilot sent to the eastern front in 1944. Must have been good, he flew to the end of the european conflict in 1945, had orders to land his plane and destroy it. He hated to do that but orders... I've been up close to one of the CAF ME109's - dang cramped cockpit .
