Through some bizarre spasm of cosmic oversight, coyotes are never at the tops of totem poles. What’s with that, anyway?
So naturally, Xyk has determinedly set out to correct this injustice. But unfortunately for him, it looks like Eagle hasn’t taken kindly having his spot usurped. Gulp!
I discovered Talenshi at MFF 2009, and I was immediately and entirely impressed with her work. When I discovered she enjoyed totemic themes, the idea for this piece came straight to mind. She was such a pleasure to work with, and I’m overjoyed at how well the commission turned out. The perspective, the stylish background, and Xyk’s twisted proportions (especially his bug eyes) all fit together perfectly, resulting in a piece that is both striking and hilarious at the same time.
(And yes, I’m aware that the ordering of animals on totem poles does not imply importance. However, Xyk is just a taaaad more simple-minded!)
