my pearl design/headcanon is a shapeshifting alien that doesnt have any "true form," instead she's just developed her appearance over the years. she still looks pretty wild most of the time because she gets so excited about colors and animals and wants to shove them all onto herself. but another thing about her is she Consciously Chooses To Be A Woman. she has no true form, no assigned gender, no nothin, and she chooses to be a woman and ive just massively coded her as trans because i think its fun. especially when my flavor of transgederism for grian is a little more stressed lol. he feels neutral on it most of the time but suddenly remembers/thinks about being/acting like a girl and has a crisis over it. a fun vibe to play around with but less fun to focus on all the time!

i love ariana as a concept in all of this because it means grian has a method of self expression. yay dress-up! yay experimentation! especially when its with friends!!

i also just remembered ive said that at the start of s8 pearl was nervous being New and couldnt figure out how to present herself so she was just a straight up void shadow until she gave up and just based herself on grian. and then after hanging out with gem for a while she was like fuck im so tired of copying grian gem can i use you as a base. and she gets to have fun with the other girls figuring out what to look like
SOOOOO there is an Opportunity. for a reverse situation of sorts where grian uses HER as a blueprint. like when ur a very newly Trance Gentered child and you really intensely look up to some other trans person you find. not a universal experience but its gotta be pretty common. i feel like theres a lot of people who found their blueprints either in fictional characters or just people online
