Worst than a band of killers and child abusers? Guess there would also be slightly better... Just as an exemple, my panther would have give her a job in her establishment, and as soon she would have worked enough to repay her price (and buy another slave), she would have been free to leave seeking her way, or to stay but as an employee instead than a slave.
I can't remember catching a glimpse of the tip of Lillie's tail, and I seem to remember her using hadalen at some poit... but I *really* think some down time at the temple'll be of major help to her. Especially the fact that there are no males there. She definitely needs to be on the "no touchie" list.
i get the feeling that perhaps Friga was grabbed while she was on her way to join the Temple.
and we do kinda see Lillie's tail in that page.. it has the dark tip, and she has most of the physical signs of a Hadalen user, iirc. could be she doesn't know how to use it yet though. if she was grabbed young the way Lamb was, she might not have gotten much chance to experiment when the ability manifested.
either way, i suspect both of them are going to be having an extended stay at the temple.. Friga to learn and/or teach, and Lillie to get a chance to heal injuries both physical and mental.

I think if slavers got to know their "merchandise" at all, it'd be similar to how ranchers and farmers know their livestock. They'd talk about their quirks and habits, and which ones are known troublemakers or difficult to handle. But they wouldn't see them as people. Can't really be a slaver if you look at your stock that way. It requires a bit of disassociation or "othering" to do, I imagine. Else your natural empathy (assuming one has any) will complain that you're treating people like, well, animals, and not giving them the full dignity they deserve.
Wouldn't be surprised if even ancient slavers in our own history had to practice this. Once you start seeing someone or something as a person, it's very hard to treat them poorly, or as an object to be bought and sold. Go too far and you might even start to call for abolishing the entire practice! Whether you need religion to start you on that path depends on the individual.
