President Edith Vaughn
The White House biography of President Edith Vaughn, as it appeared in early 2028.
———
A bit of context, as of the 2020 census, there are approximately 400 million people living in the United States; herbivores outnumber carnivores 10 to 1, 364 million Prey-Herbivores and 36.4 million Predator-Carnivores. At the time of the 2020 census, there are 432 recognized mammal species; 355 herbivores and 77 carnivores. This species figure does not include dozens of hybrid species. If you're a herbivore, you shouldn't say the "s-word" or "savage" to a carnivore. Carnivores may call other carnivores "savage" as a compliment. Other offending words to carnivores are "beast" and "monster."
Texas is the state with the largest carnivore population by number, with 9 million carnivores living in the Lone Star state as of 2020, or around 22% of the total state population. California has the second largest carnivore population, with 7 million carnivores residing in the Golden State, or around 14% of the state population. New Jersey has the largest percentage of carnivore residents, around 40% of NJ's population are carnivores, approximately 4 million carnivores are living the Garden State in 2020, making it the state with the third largest carnivore population.
Unfortunately, species disparity and herbivore privilege are very real in America, as of 2025, a carnivore only earns 82 cents for every dollar a herbivore earns. Home value decreases if the owner/seller is a carnivore. 97 out of 100 CEOs of the largest companies in America are herbivores. Carnivores students are more likely to be unable to pay their student loans. Carnivores make up only 9.1% of America's population, but 52% of the inmate population are carnivores (9/52 is often used in hate speech targeting carnivores). Herbivore supremacy and prey nationalism are also on the rise since 2020 and have caused several deadly incidents. Notable herbivore supremacist and prey nationalist groups include the Prey Defense League (PDL) and the Keep America Herbivore (KAH) decentralized movement.
Politically, carnivores have voted heavily for the Democratic Party, at least since the 1960s with the passing of the Species Rights Act. In 2025, there are 581 carnivores holding political offices in federal, state, and local governments; out of these, 536 are Democrats, 32 are Republicans, 8 are independents, and 5 are affiliated with third parties. The American Association of Predator-Carnivores (AAPC) is the largest and oldest carnivore rights organization in the United States, founded amid the Civil War. While officially non-partisan and independent, the AAPC has been criticized for being too liberal, and some conservative carnivores founded the alternatives for AAPC: National Carnivore Coalition (NCC), The Right Fangs (TRF), and Carnivore Patriots Union (CPU).
Also it's worth noting that the anthro animals in JudyJudith's Universe of Anthropomorphic Animals are exclusively land-based mammals (with the exception of primates, flying, and egg-laying mammals). Avians, insects, fishes, and reptiles didn't "evolve" into anthros, they're considered the "animals" in-universe and are the food sources for carnivores.
Anyway, the presidents list in the JudyJudith's Universe of Anthropomorphic Animals is the following: (every president after JFK is fictional)
36. John B. Lynwood (D-TX, 1963 - 1969)
37. Nicholas Dixon (R-CA, 1969 - 1974)
38. Gerald Henry (R-MI, 1974 - 1977)
39. Jamie Carver (D-GA, 1977 - 1981)
40. Roland Rogan (R-CA, 1981 - 1989)
41. Gage H. W. Shrub (R-TX, 1989 - 1993)
42. Will Clifton (D-AR, 1993 - 2001)
43. Gage W. Shrub (R-TX, 2001 -2009)
44. Bartholomew Ohana (D-IL, 2009 - 2017)
45. Doe Wyden (D-DE, 2017 - 2021)
46. Donald Trumbull (R-FL, 2021 - 2025)
47. Edith Vaughn (D-CA, 2025 - 2029)
48. Elyse Wilfred (R-GA, 2029 - 2037)
49. Dusty Buckley (R-TX, 2037 - 2041)
50. Judy Reinard (D-NJ, 2041 - 2049)
51. Steven Burrows (R-AL, 2049 - 2053)
52. Jerry Reinard (D-TX, 2053 - 2061)
Edith's election as California governor in 2016 was a bit surprising, though her fame as an actress did help her a lot. She survived a recall election initiated by progressives in 2021 because of her refusal to defund the police. In 2022, Edith ran for the Senate seat held by the retiring Dianna Feingold; she lost in the Democratic primary. In the 2024 Democratic presidential primaries, Edith faced 10 other candidates, including a tough challenge from former vice president Jamal Harrison. Edith presented herself as a centrist, moderate Democrat, and won the nomination for president. She selected the progressive Senator from Massachusetts, Ken Hopper, as her vice presidential running mate. In the presidential election, Edith presented herself as a unifying candidate, she denounced "extremism on both sides" and said she ran on the "values that we share," rather than the "issues that divide us." Edith and Ken went on to defeat incumbent president Donald Trumbull and vice president Mike Pounce.
As for Edith, Secret Service code name: Alpha, she had good intentions, but sometimes she made mistakes. Edith began her presidency with her approval ratings at around 50%, her ratings reached its highest, 62%, around mid 2026, the time of the US Semiquincentennial anniversary and after the Artemis III Moon landing mission. After that, her approval ratings experienced gradual drops. She eventually finished her presidency as a one-term president with an approval rating of 44%. Regarding her presidency, conservatives thought she's too liberal, liberals thought she's too moderate, moderates thought she's too reluctant to compromise with Republicans. At one time, Edith had the most disproportionate approval ratings by species; according to Pawwup, in November 2028, 92% of carnivores approved Edith's handling of her job as president, while only 43% herbivores approved.
In the C-SPAN presidential rankings released on January 20, 2029, Vaughn debuted at 25th, out of 47 presidents (excluding newly inaugurated president and Edith's successor, Elyse Wilfred). Although the economy did recover and species equity improved during Edith's presidency, her decision to invade Yemen proved to be unpopular, and it contributed to her defeat in the 2028 presidential election. She was also infamous for her gaffes. Republicans attacked Edith for her gaffes and the invasion of Yemen, while claiming the recovered economy as the results of the policies of her predecessor, Donald Trumbull. Elyse also said things like "country above species" and "there's only one species: the mammal species" that are well-received by the herbivore majority.
Edith's White House was relatively scandal free, though she was the subject of numerous conspiracies mostly speciesist in nature. These conspiracies ranged from Edith stole the election from Donald Trumbull, Edith plotted to install a Carnivore supremacy dictatorship, Edith being a blood-drinking demon-worshipping shapeshifting reptilian alien from planet Nibiru, to the conspiracy theory that said the "real" Edith died many years ago in a filming incident involving pyrotechnics and whoever occupied the White House was either an imposter or a clone, the latter was proposed by some as the reasons why she was prone to making gaffes. She had an uneasy relationship with her predecessor who accused her of stealing the election, Edith never met with Donald Trumbull even until his death in 2030. Edith last met Donald in October 2024 at the presidential debates; he did not attend her inauguration and called her an "illegitimate president" that was "installed, not elected." Previously, she met with him several times while filming movies and in her shows.
Edith appointed Isaac Wolfowitz as the first Predator-Carnivore and first openly gay Supreme Court justice. No former president and vice president died during Edith's time in office. She made 20 trips to 27 countries during her presidency. Her first international visit was in February 2025 to the United Kingdom at the invitation of King William V, while her last visit was in December 2028 to South Korea to attend the signing of the Pyeongchang Agreement that formally ended the Korean War. The first foreign leader Edith received at the White House was Chinese paramount leader Li Pinjing in March 2025, which was to discuss de-escalation in the Taiwan strait. The last foreign leader Edith received at the White House was Indian prime minister Gururaj Dixit in November 2028, they met regarding the Pakistani civil war. In total, she met with leaders from 117 countries in the White House and on international trips during her time in office.
After she left the White House, Edith returned to California and lived in San Giorgio. She established her own presidential library. She founded non-profit organizations to promote carnivore rights in America and around the world. Edith also wrote several books, with her autobiography, The Wolf of Pennsylvania Avenue, becoming a New York Times bestseller after its release in 2031. Edith chose to stay out of presidential politics after she left the White House, despite her teasing a potential non-consecutive second term run in 2032 that never materialized.
She rarely criticized her successors. Despite initially hating Elyse Wilfred, Edith became close with her during Elyse's presidency, where she often asked Edith for advice "from the other side." Elyse also hugged Edith during the latter's painted presidential portrait unveiling ceremony in July 2031, which symbolized an effort to reduce partisanship in America. Edith became actively involved in mammalitarian activities in her post-presidency retirement, she also hosted documentaries on various subjects ranging from climate change to species equity. Most people have more positive opinions on Edith's post-presidency than her presidency.
Regarding the obvious, the size of Edith's chest because of her macromastia became the subject of too-many-to-count jokes, although she thought of these jokes as sexist and not funny, she admitted she couldn't do anything about it as she believed in the First Amendment. (Breaking the fourth wall a bit: the mammals in JJUA have different physiology than real humans and some species there have large chest, so larger chest sizes are more common) Edith had another breast reduction surgery (she previously had one in late 2014 before entering politics) in late 2040s, when she entered her 70s and her girls were starting to be very saggy and her back hurt. Eventually, Edith passed away in early 2080 at age 108, the longest lived president (as of 2099) and the fourth president to be a centenarian, she lived long enough to see the United States Tricentennial in 2076. She was survived by her four children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

I've been curious, but have any of the Judiverse politicians ever advocated for species-based subsidized employment? Like, shrews and moles working the coal mines? It wouldn't be an exactly sound or humane way of delegating work , but I had this thought where there'd be a campaign to use predators and prey in a utilitarian manner; "be what America needs you to be" or something
Come to think of it, it's pretty interesting to see how each species's abilities can be used in certain roles, let's say in the police force. Elephants and rhinos are for breaking in, Cheetahs are for chasing criminals, canines are for smelling drugs, felines are for searching in the night/dark, etc. But I can see some in-universe people complaining about speciesism. And that's why my universe only has mammals, it's already complex, imagine the complexity with reptiles, birds, and all.
"Omnivores! Carnivores! Rise up! Let our howls be heard! For too long we have lived on scraps, the refuse of society! A fat rabbit in New York sips their carrot juice while a coyote pup dies of starvation digging in the San Antonio dirt! Supermarkets are overflowing with greens, with nary a lizard tail in sight! Grass grazers paint us as monsters even as we adhere to their prescribed menus in the schools they push us out of!
Well, you know what?
We are beasts!
And we! Will not! Be CAGED!"
Well, you know what?
We are beasts!
And we! Will not! Be CAGED!"
I think you have some pretty interesting ideas regarding the social stigma between carnivores and herbivores. And how it's mixed in with all of the other political issues.
I personally am not really much of a big political person. Because I don't really like to argue with people. But, do find it kind of interesting to observe it from a distance. ^^
