The song I based the picture on has a line "I'll watch the moonrise with my memories of you". I think I should have put some grey in Gabu's face to give the impression of age, but my idea was Mei has sadly passed on. <=) (not by eating!!)

....*is completely speechless* Not only is this an amazing illustration - but the song just really hit home with me so very much. I have never seen this movie, and I am most certainly going to now.

I managed to get hold of an official English sub from Hong Kong, although it's in the Region 3 format ( plays easily through free online software such as VLC media player ). It's an absolutely wonderful film.
And that's an absolutely wonderful picture. Love it.

I ended up buying the Korean release for the bonus art book, anime rarely interests me but this story was too warm and heart felt to ignore, that whole message of making friends regardless of prejudices and being from different walks of life, yeah I'm a sap.

His friendship with Boris was so nice. Mary I must commission you for a piece when you have time I would like to do a piece with 2 characters something endearing you capture those moments so well.

There aren't any plans to release it here in the states, sadly. The characters are charming and the backgrounds are gorgeous. I recommend finding a torrent over youtube, but...

I bought a Japanese dvd on ebay. It advertised English subs, but they are not there. If you have a marginal understanding of Japanese it's watchable without English there's not much difficult dialogue. :)

The fandub is surprisingly well done! I recommend it!

It's great, and I think you captured that line from Watch the Moonrise perfectly. Glad it was an inspiration for you, but it's not that had to be inspired by Arashi no Yoru Ni with its touching story. It's why I dubbed it in the first place; it was definitely worth the effort and the time :)
