Fan art of Gabu from "Arashi no Yoru Ni".
This was inspired by "Watch the Moonrise", a song written for the English fan-dub of the film. Check it out at:

I had this line art sitting around for a while, and decided to color it for fun. :)
EDIT: Adding these links in case you have never seen the film and would like to:
fansubhere:

and there is a fandub here:

(the song I based the picture on is an original song from the fandub)
The fandub is surprisingly well done! They even have an FA account:

....*is completely speechless* Not only is this an amazing illustration - but the song just really hit home with me so very much. I have never seen this movie, and I am most certainly going to now.
I hope you don't mind that I post a link to this pic and vid in my journal, I want to share this beautiful song and illustration with everyone!

Don't mind at all. I highly recommend the film. I've been searching for an official english sub to no avail, but you can find a fansubhere:

I ended up buying the Korean release for the bonus art book, anime rarely interests me but this story was too warm and heart felt to ignore, that whole message of making friends regardless of prejudices and being from different walks of life, yeah I'm a sap.
Your rendition of Gabu is awesome, thanks so much for drawing him!

*sniff*. Aww that made me feel sad for him.. That actually brought a tear to my eye. What movie is that? I must see it. I'm a sucker for friendship movies. I think that's why I liked balto so much. His friendship with Boris was so nice. Mary I must commission you for a piece when you have time I would like to do a piece with 2 characters something endearing you capture those moments so well.
It's called "Arashi no Yoru Ni" or, "One Stormy Night". You will LOVE it. I have a Japanese DVD, but can't seem to find an "official" English subtitle. There aren't any plans to release it here in the states, sadly. The characters are charming and the backgrounds are gorgeous. I recommend finding a torrent over youtube, but...

That's incredibly sweet -- and extremely apropro for Gabu.
(And if you'd like, Here's one I had done as a team-commission by IndigoAngelCat and JenKiwi: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3906020/ . It was based on a song from the movie Meet the Robinsons, Little Wonders )

All of my regrets will wash away somehow!
But I cannot forget the way I feel right now:
In these small hours.
These little wonders, these twists and turns of fate...
Thank you. Indy and Jen are awesome artists, and they did the characters proud. As did you, Mary...I'd say that pic is the best Gabu pic I've yet seen.

I'm going to shamelessly copy paste a comment I made from above. <=)

I bought a Japanese dvd on ebay. It advertised English subs, but they are not there. If you have a marginal understanding of Japanese it's watchable without English there's not much difficult dialogue. :)
The fandub is surprisingly well done! I recommend it!

Hey there,
Sorry about the delayed response, but thankyou for the shout on my page, and I absolutely love the job you've done one Gabu. It's great, and I think you captured that line from Watch the Moonrise perfectly. Glad it was an inspiration for you, but it's not that had to be inspired by Arashi no Yoru Ni with its touching story. It's why I dubbed it in the first place; it was definitely worth the effort and the time :)
Cheers,
Tustin (aka DingoMike here on FA).
