Here is a second charcoal scoop I've made. This one is a bit more complex than the last one.
The one shown here is not my own design, it is a plan I followed from a book by Alexander G. Weygers titled The Complete Modern Blacksmith, which is honestly a really good book full of useful information and inspiring ideas.
The scoop here deviates from the original plans, but it won't affect the function at all. His is made to be used to collect charcoal from campfires and fireplaces. Sifting the fuel from the ash to be used for blacksmithing as simply as possible.
I intend to use this one for just sifting big pieces of charcoal from the charcoal mounds I create.
This will give me nice big pieces and leave behind the tiny little bits that are basically dust as well as the mud that contaminates the charcoal as it falls off the mound and into the heap.
I didn't have to do much forge work to make this, just wire cutting, straightening, drilling, riveting. Most of it was done cold.
