You can't see or feel the wind in this photo, but this is the view of the complete whiteout blizzard thundersnow storm from my apartment on the 12th floor above Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. Being on the lake means I get the whole 60-mph force of the winds. The windows are rattling and bowing in and out, (a neighbor's window broke and blew out!), the floor is shaking a bit, and that part of the apartment is freezing cold, even though it has steam heat. Outside, you can't stand up at all, cars are sliding, and thunder, lightning, hail and freezing fog are mixed with the sideways-blowing snow. On a typical day, you can see all the way down the lake to the Indiana state line from here, but now you can hardly see the building across the street!

Yep, it's a freaking picnic out there I tell ya. I'm over in Aurora and we're getting 45-50ish mph winds and it just hasn't let up all day. I live on the second floor of my apartment complex, and it's like minor earthquakes at times. There's already a foot or so of snow on our deck, and the whole parking lot is half buried. I live outside of one of the busiest streets in my town, and I have seen maybe ten cars in that intersection since 4pm today. I don't even have work tomorrow; it's the first time in the history of the firm that they have shut down for a whole day.
So I guess I gotta eat my words big time when I said we weren't going to have a snow day.
