Dragon Survival - Play as Dragon - Banner
■ Dragon Survival got a release!
■ Minecraft Dragon Mod ■
■ Dragons Survival is my global mod about playable dragons for Minecraft 1.16.5 and 1.18.2 Forge. I've always liked dragons and this wonderful game, but I've been playing alone and without modifications my whole life, until I accidentally came across this cultural phenomenon in 2020. I was fascinated by the amount of player-created content. There were so many mods created by them, many of which had to do with dragons. You could tame them, breed them, ride them, kill them, but in none of them could you BE a dragon. This really upset me. Being an artist very far from programming, modding and the minecraft community, I decided to take a risk and create my own mod. I had absolutely no knowledge or friends in this field. The only thing I had was a dream and the support of a community of dragon lovers. You can see the result for yourself.

Personally, I don't want to do any ports, but there are a couple of people who are working on porting to Fabric 1.18 and Forge 1.19. I'm not sure what the finished material will come out of this, but at least someone is working in this direction (but not me).
The artwork looks pretty impressive. Didn't expect block based creatures to look that good.
Did you also modd the way things are being mined or crafted, or are the dragons using the same tools and items as human players?
I never played Minecraft myself and therefore I don't have any experience with modding in this game, but I saw quite a few videos on youtube from various creators about playing as various creatures. Usually it's a "I survives 100 Days as ... in Minecraft" thing.
Ryguyrocky for example has uploaded a video called "I Survived 100 Days as a LAVA DRAGON in Minecraft", in which he played as a dragon against a team of three (human) hunters.
The Dragon (and any other creature he played as in this line of videos) came with a skilltree, allowing it to "grow up" and gain additional abilities.
Though it looks kind of weird to me that no matter which creature he plays as, whenever he's in first person view he's still using shields, swords, bows and all the other weapons and tools as if he played a regular human character.
I wonder what happens to all these creature mods once the respective video is done. Wouldn't that be a great point to start from making a mod about playing as various creatures?!?
There would be a lot of need for balancing though.
Pretty much every creature, I saw Ryguyrocky play as, has some pretty OP abilities (like being able to exactly locate ores, mining extra ores, super fast digging, extemely powerful AOE attacks, etc.) and there's always something that requires the Ender Dragon's egg (which is a unique item as far as I know), so the progression of one player would basically prevent everyone else from getting everything maxed out...
Well, sorry for the long text. Got lost in a thought there ^^

1. I'm glad you appreciated the art part. I worked really hard on the graphics.
2. the dragon players craft and use the same items as the human players. I didn't change that.
3. The whole "I played 100 days as a bat" and stuff has nothing to do with my mod. They're playing with the Morphing mod, which just changes the maximum number of hp and the player model. It doesn't add any more complex functionality. If you want to watch a video of my mod, watch the Dragon Survival video, not the Morphing video. Examples:
