So this stuff happens in a world I've been building with my fiancé/
GreenEyedT for years now. All our OCs, unless otherwise states, live somewhere in the world, or are connected to it. We don't have much information about it posted publicly... but if anyone has any questions I'll try to reply to any of them, if there's any. It's modern fantasy in a bigger world, so there's still areas with small towns/villages with nothing else close by. Some places being much more modern, and some magically kept a secret.
Shortly after Baker was born, he was brought to an orphanage. The couple said they couldn't handle raising a child at that time, so they left him there and quickly left.
As he grew older, others around him avoided him. It was hard for him to get to play with other kids. He was overly enthusiastic with anything he did, even more so when it came to trying to share anything with anyone else.
Eventually, he did meet someone who was more than happy to talk to him, and even learned a few things from him in their short time meeting.
It wasn't long before the other had to leave, but feeling what kind of abilities Baker had and how easily they were going out of control from a bully taking the first gift he had gotten from someone else, he knew he needed someone to properly teach him.
(Story of the last bit here with art-> https://www.furaffinity.net/view/50818725/ )
On that day he was adopted by Duhir Ricin, The head of the Magic Research branch of the Ricin Family, a family who has specialized in plants and poisons, and everything surrounding them for hundreds of years. They have amassed a vault of knowledge about what they study, but have kept much of it a secret. Only sharing what they believed wouldn't be misused to harm others.
That was when they began traveling together. Baker finally getting out of the orphanage and learning more about the vast world, and anything magical that Duhir had to teach him. And Duhir had some good company, for the first time in years since he had to go off on his dangerous studies, having left his son, Zest, with the main branch of the family.
Now, Duhir didn't understand what was the cause of Baker's vast magical abilities, just that they were different from anything he himself knew or studied. All he knew was that Baker quickly took to many things he had taught him, and that was rather exciting. Having someone to teach again after being away from Zest and the rest of the family for roughly six years at this time.
He taught what small bits he knew about Voodoo magic, something Baker seemed to be rather attuned into using with the dolls he loved to make of others, as well as some curse magic that Duhir himself had come up with. He had also been taught how to put his mana into his threads, further increasing his abilities and strength when using them.
Oddly at the same time his physical strength increased, as well as his overall energy for just... doing anything. A constant grin/odd smile always on his face. He's a very caring bat, but his growing size as he got older was rather intimidating at first glance, coupled with his high energy and over eagerness in meeting anyone new.
Eventually five years had passed by, Baker was just past his 18th birthday.
"Hey pop, am I old enough *now* to do that magic blood thing you did for Aunt Lossa?" He asked, bumping against his dad, who was now a bit shorter than he was. "I know you had to do that in an emergency, but I think we're both strong enough for me to finally do it..?" He asked with his hands together like he was praying, an innocent smile on his face as he hoped Duhir would finally agree.
"...sorry, but I want to be sure we're both at our best for that. I still don't know if your abilities will change how the whole procedure works. But soon, I promise." He reached up to put a hand on Baker's shoulder, giving him a soft smile. "Which means you need to keep practicing everything I taught you."
"Awww.." Baker's ears went back slightly, but his disappointed look quickly turned to a grin again. "Well it's gonna happen eventually, and then I'll be even *closer* to the whole family..." He trailed off as he spoke, though still sounded extremely happy about the thought alone.
He had been super curious about everyone else he had learned about from his dad. He had a brother, an aunt, uncles, cousins, and great uncle. Every time he thought about the family he had yet to meet, a huge dumb grin appeared on his face. Thinking about how five years ago he had gone from being on his own at the orphanage, into having a huge family.
Today, they continued to travel on foot into the late afternoon, the sun starting to go down as they walked down a seemingly rarely traveled path in the woods.
"We'll stop when we can find a good spot to rest for the night." Duhir spoke up, the vial on his staff glowing a dim green light as the shade from the trees darkened the area. "And we'll take turns again keeping an eye out."
"...but you only have one eye dad." Baker said with a grin, being far from the first time he had said this joke, but it only got Duhir to roll his good eye with a smirk.
"I'll give you more homework while we travel if you keep that up." He half teased back.
"Do it." Baker grinned, having been oddly happy any time his dad threatened to give him more to learn or practice.
The two shared another small laugh as they kept moving, eventually finding a place to rest for the night.
Baker continued to work on his own magicks as Duhir prepared a small meal, having to gather some wild berries and use his own magicks to remove the poisons from them that would bother them after eating, adding the poison he had gathered to his vial on his staff.
The night grew darker, the only light around them were the small beams of moonlight from through the tree tops, and what glows were emitted from their combined magic.
Just as Baker was getting ready to rest for the night, a loud crack could be heard from someone stepping on a fallen branch. The night life doing quiet and an eerie silence falling over the wooded area.
"...Dad." Baker whispered, moving over to grab Duhir's shoulder.
"It's probably them again. I'll handle them, so you be sure to wat-NGH." The older bat grunted out, quickly looking to his arm that was struck as he ended up dropping his staff. "...Baker, get out of here, *NOW*." He sounded both angry, and worried.
"No! I'm not gonna leave you here when you can't fly!" Baker raised his voice, trying to keep Duhir upright as the numbing poison spread through his body.
"I said go, damnit!" Duhir raised his voice, his eye glowing as he tried to do something about the poison spreading. "...I'll be fine." He said in a more tired sounding tone, having to put all his effort to not ragdoll on the ground.
"No! No no no I'm not going!" Baker shouted. "I have a family and I'm not gonna leave anyone!" A few tears welled up in his eyes, a faint glow starting to surround his body.
Steps could be heard approaching the pair from the darkness in the woods, multiple sets of feet heard pushing through the light brush. The numbing poison spread too far in Duhir's body at this point, the older bat unable to really say much as his body went limp. "....g...go.."
Baker shook his head, looking to Duhir's face with another smile. "...I'm gonna be a full member of the family, because I want it. I'm gonna travel more with you because I WANT it." His smile was slowly growing, going from looking scared to a more intense look. The glowing around him growing in intensity. "And they're gonna go away because I WANT IT!" He raised his voice, setting his dad on the ground gently as he moved back up.
"I want it. I WANT it. I WANT IT." The grin stayed plastered on his face, his joints cracking a bit as he took a more aggressive stance. "YOU'RE ALL GOING TO GO AWAY FOR GOOD!" He shouted with a small chuckle in his voice. "AND I'M GONNA BE PART OF THE FAMILY!!!"
His voice echoed as an aggressive chill quickly flooded the air. Baker brought his hands up, a ball of green pulsing mana forming in his hands as his mouth was much bigger. Open as a green glow emitted from it, a loud breathy chuckle coming from Baker. "...now come to where I can see you." He demanded, his mana crackling around him and through the area, flooding everywhere around him and piercing through whatever was around him, including Duhir.
The footsteps from earlier resumed, though sounding more struggled as they slowly made their way for the white bat. Though for Duhir, Baker's mana flooded into him, mixing with the older bat's own mana before flowing back out to Baker. The glow around him grew more intenstly as the brown in his eyes began to fade as he drew in some of his dad's mana... slowly being replaced with the family's green and purple, but a bit distorted with what was going on right now.
As the attackers finally came into view, Baker quickly turned his head to look around at them, loud cracking coming from his neck from how fast he was looking around. "...you came to hurt MY family." The small entertained laugh in his voice was replaced by a deep growl. "NULLA POENA SINE CULPA, I AM A DEVOURER. BORN A TULPA!"
Baker's voice echoed loudly, a huge pulse of his magicks piercing through everything in the area as the mana orb in his hands exploded. Right after, the bodies of their attackers rag dolled and fell to the ground, thud by thud. He looked around again, making sure he got each and every one of them before finally moving to attend to his dad.
"...asleep." He said with a more 'gentle' looking smile, his mouth still glowing green as he moved to sit against the near by tree, pulling Duhir close and wrapping his arms around him to protect him. His mana continued to crackle around their bodies as he stayed awake the rest of the night, his eyes darting to look at anything that dared make a sound.
He stayed in that position all night, keeping his dad close. As the sun began to rise, so did Duhir. The older bat let out a small groan as he was coming to, lightly opening his good eye before gasping out and jolting up. 'W-What happened?!" He loudly asked as he looked around, feeling where the dart had hit him. "Baker were you abl-" He barely got out as he turned to look to his son, going wide eyed at what he looked like right now.
"I wanted you to be safe. I wanted them gone. I did both." He said with a happy toothy grin, the intensity of his mana finally calming down, seeing that his dad was okay. "They can't do anything to you anymore."
"..." Duhir looked around again, seeing the bodies more clearly now. "...I see..." He muttered, rubbing his chin lightly before Baker reached over to him to pull him back into a hug. "N-Now tell me what happened to you!" He said a bit louder than he intended, squirming for a moment before letting out a sigh from Baker's tight hug.
"Well..." Baker started, telling Duhir everything that had happened after he had been taken out of the fight, a heavy focus on Baker talking about what HE wanted, while Duhir looked his son over.
"I see... that might explain a few things then. You being at the orphanage at a young age, why you're so adaptive to what I've taught you... Why it looks like you already have the family's eyes without me having to risk your life." He gave Baker a bit of an angry look for a moment at that last bit before it softened. "It's because you're a literal monster." He sounded proud about it.
Hearing that last bit made Baker frown for a moment, before a small bit of confusion, then grinning at his dad again. "I'm a Ricin."
"You're a Ricin. We're 'monsters' with the vast knowledge we've amassed, and you're part of that." He said before letting out a laugh, mostly out of relief, while moving in to hug his son. "And now that I know what you are, I can REALLY help you with what you need to study next."
"Heheheh.." Baker continued to grin, his face slowly going back to normal, minus his once brown eyes fully having become the Ricin's family eyes. Now he was even closer to the family than before.
Sooo yeah. Baker is a Tulpa.
Tulpa is a concept in Theosophy, mysticism, and the paranormal, of an object or being that is created through spiritual or mental powers. Modern practitioners, who call themselves "tulpamancers", use the term to refer to a type of willed imaginary friend which practitioners consider to be sentient and relatively independent.
This was forced unto him while he was still in the womb. Why this happened they still don't know, or what odd reasoning his biological parents had for turning him into a Tulpa, but it's easily assumed they were scared of what they had created and he was quickly dropped off at an orphanage. The oddness in Baker's abilities weren't entirely natural, which was one reason why Duhir couldn't leave him alone on his own and had to risk taking Baker with him on his travels.
