It reminds of Terry Pratchett's Discworld books where the wizards of Unseen University go to Mono Island and discover that the God of Evolution has created a tortoise with wheels. (it all went well until the tortoise skidded into a sharp cactus XD There were also plans for a dirigible whale...)

Yeah, it is. The real books are so much more than that...

Pratchett's almost like a modern-day Charles Dickens combined with JK Rowling and Douglas Adams. His Discworld books aren't really about the Discworld or fantasy at all; they're more about presenting Earth's own social issues in a way that people would actually want to read them. He;s just such a funny and wise man - he even makes issues such as human mortality and fear of death funny yet in a respectful way.


It's just..well, I'm not much good at describing the sheer awesomeness of his books. The only way to know what they're really like is to just try and read them, I s'pose.
