Now here’s a unique weapon with a fascinating history. The Germans wanted a weapon with the automatic capability of an MP-40 but with the effective range of a Kar98K, this weapon was the result.
However the Fuhrer did not approve the rifle and wanted production to cease immediately. They defied this order and continued to produce it under the name of MP-44 to avoid suspicion, a pretty balzy move if you ask me. Perhaps he had a change of heart but it wasn’t until the final years of the war that the weapon was approved by the Fuhrer and was produced in mass under its original designation.
If you’re a fan of history, go get yourself the original assault rifle!

To get your hands on an original it’s gonna be expensive as hell.
But this is the next thing, enjoy.

It is a copy, but it’s not in .22LR.
I tried to get an authentic Sturmgewehr but they were a little more pricey than I was comfortable with so I compromised with a reproduction in the original caliber.
However looking back I don’t think that was the best idea, damn near impossible to find ammo for this thing.

THATS why I never bought one of those. Its a one trick pony caliber. Had they made it in 7.62X39, they'd sell a ton of them! and the difference between the two calibers isn't much. Much happier with my .22LR version.
I'm now having extreme difficulty locating .303, 8mm, 7.5 Swiss, 7.7 and 6.5 Jap (Norma), even .357Sig and ,32ACP.
Even more disturbing is that .308, .30-30, .30-06 , .44 Special or Magnum , .357 is now pushing $2.00 a round or more! I was able to get .30-30 for on average $15-17 a box, Cheapest I've found now is $26 a box, .308 is averaging $32 a box and higher, .30-06 is over $42 a box, as high as $63 a box. Last box of .44 I saw, $80!

Another reason why I resisted buying the Ruger Five Seven pistol or the new carbine, its another caliber to dick with and difficult to find and expensive to obtain. Plus the .22WMR is a fantastic round, ballistically the same as the 5.7 out to 100 meters. And if firing a handgun, pointless past 100 meters. I'm seriously jazzing to get the S&W 2.0 in .22WMR!
