Heck, every time I think of Watership Down, all I can think of was the first time I picked it up at blockbuster. I had headed there one day with some a couple of friends and we had gotten a new release and had a coupon that game us a freebie in the old movie section. This was after a redesign of the shelving there so finding anything was a pain but one of the categories they now had caught my eye, animation. I go over and take a look and it's what I though it would be, animated films that wouldn't fit under kiddy. Just about all of them I knew of already, 9 lives of Friz the cat, Now and Later, several Ralf Bashki's films and some "Japanimation" (to use a term they used later). The old VHS box art stood out like a beacon too me because as I looked completely out of place with a scene that looked like it should be a PBS show rather then not even be considered at the age level of the others that where on the rack. I picked it up and while I don't remember what it said on the back, it hardly sounded like it was outside of the kiddish look of the art on the box. Since no one was finding anything really interesting I had talked the others into it on the line, "I have to see what is so adult about this..." and I think we all thought that at least it would be fun to pick on it with that in mind.....
At least we thought that until we got to the counter with someone that apparently knew better, we get there, she looked over the two and the first words she said was, "Your going to watch that.. those rabbits gave me nightmares..." and I looked over at my friends and it was clear that they where thinking the same thing I was... "WHAT??"
Well, we learned better after that and a good lesson over not judging a movie by it's box art was had by all, though I have to say that I've always liked it's sort of sequel (same animation company, story by the same author), The Plague Dogs better, though you'd be better off with reading the book as the movie does cut things from earlier in the story without dropping it's later bit in the story, making some things seem to come out of no where. But I have never openly cried during a film (I think I just don't get that attached to a movie), but I have gotten choked up over only two things in movies, one was the death of Mufassa in the Lion King, and the other is the end of the Plague Dogs.... even though I knew it was coming after reading the book.
And for a bit more, I was in the army and on a weekend I got up early and got to the TV, and being one of the few there with a VCR (long story) started up first Watership Down, then Plague Dogs and as the 3 or so hours of play time very few walked out... including some that I knew where scoffing at it when they first came in. At one point I had gotten tapped on the shoulder more then once wondering where the hell this came from. But is was also one of the few times I'd be sitting in the common room and a fight over what to watch didn't break out every time someone new walked in.

This looks inspired more by the TV series than the movie. Nice work!
