If you want to play classic rock, Explorers were mainly for metal. If you want a REAL metal guitar get an ESP (They have a explorer looking one which is better IMHO), if you want a more classic rock sound, ESP still does some good ones, but I would look at a Les Paul or a Stratocaster.
