Overlord Hellfarch (Character Reference and Bio)
Name/Aliases: Hellfarch, The Dark Titan, The Pursuer
Age: Unknown
Sex: Male
Height: Usually 9' 2'', varies
Weight: Unknown
Likes: Amassing power, depriving gods of their power, collecting cities, cleanliness
Dislikes: Gods, dirt and grime, needless destruction
Backstory: Before being trapped in a cycle of being sealed away and breaking free, then escaping to another world and ultimately taking over reality itself, Hellfarch spent hundreds of years waging war against the gods. A far cry from his current personality, he carried out his mission with a perpetually grim and serious demeanor. To him, the gods were invaders that took over the world he inhabited and destroyed all the he had. They then infested it with their own creations, sentient races meant only to provide the gods worship and entertainment as they spread their civilizations across the land.
Knowing he was outclassed in terms of raw magical power, Hellfarch spent the first few centuries in hiding. The gods existed in another plane of reality, and while they could surveil much of and exert great influence over the world, they were not omniscient as their worshipers claim them to be. Exploiting his longevity, Hellfarch trained his body and developed an arsenal of magical abilities, the most powerful of which being the ability to manipulate size. While the gods granted mortals their own form of magic, Hellfarch's magic worked entirely differently, making it terrifyingly alien to mortals and gods alike.
When he finally left hiding and began his worldwide siege, he was quick to figure out that the divine power the gods possessed came almost entirely from the worship of mortals, and in order to bring them down he would need to cut that power off at the source. Hellfarch used his magic to traverse the land as a titan, shrinking down cities and transporting them to spots outside of the gods' influence where their prayers would be ineffective. He did not bother asking himself why he did not simply destroy all civilization in his path, and nobody had the gall to ask him that either. Regardless, the gods were quick to label him as the most evil of evils, the ultimate adversary aiming to turn the world into a living hell if he is not stopped at all costs. Entire armies threw themselves at him only to be trampled underfoot or swatted away with exotic magic.
Capturing cities was only part of Hellfarch's goals. The world that he, the gods and mortals inhabited was unfathomably large, and filled with various sources of knowledge and power unclaimed by either party. Hellfarch hoped to find something that would help him reach and overpower the gods; the gods in turn sent out adventurers to find something that could rival Hellfarch's unique abilities. Ultimately the gods won out, learning of the existence of an ancient artifact capable of imprisoning even the most powerful of beings. They sent a ragtag bunch of misfits on a quest to acquire it, and in the end they managed to use it to seal Hellfarch away for a thousand years.
I designed an evil overlord outfit for Hellfarch for because. I've always had the idea that he used to be evil in mind, and I wanted to make a version of him that reflected that. Largely the only thing that's really different is his outfit, but I made his beard a short goatee and his horns and cheek spikes are slightly stubbier to show he is a bit younger in this state. As for the outfit itself, I really mostly just had "evil overlord" in mind when I came up with it, so I gave him a cape with a gaudy high collar and shoulder pauldrons, some fingerless gloves because I can't model evil spikey armor for crap, a more elaborate skirt, and at the behest of a friend, some fancy sandals. I also added some cloth wraps to his midsection to help differentiate the outfit some more. The loincloth was mentioned in his backstory on the other ref, so I made sure to keep that part of the outfit, and I found that his cape could easily clip onto his harness which gives it more utility besides just looking really hot on him. Right up until the last minute I had actually removed his cage necklace, as I couldn't really figure out what significance it had to him before he became omnipotent, but then I realized that I could have him use it to contain whatever he had shrunken down so I added it back to him.
Overall I'm pretty happy with this! This isn't going to replace the Hellfarch we all know and love or anything, but it opens up the door to making stuff with a more serious and angry version of him and it lets me expand on his backstory some more. Plus, having alternate "skins" for my character is just kind of fun in general, and I got to set up some fun tech in Maya and Unreal Engine to let me swap between past and present Hellfarch, fully or partially as needed.
