Length: 2km
Mind: M-NAI-7C "Arctic Fox" v1.0
Gender: She/Her
Crew: 5 Mil-spec humans
Drive System: 4 High efficiency A16 torch drives
Warp Drive: B13 Disruptor Warp Drive
Armament: 2 10m railguns
Point Defense: 44 small lasers, 24 46cm railguns
Payload: 12 Heavy drone ships, 16 medium drone ships.
Notes:
Unusually aggressive and prideful for a 7C "Arctic Fox" mind. She insisted on keeping her original railguns installed while she was being updated to the modern 7th gen standard for her type. She often makes futile attempts at using them within simulations, which her captain humors. So far her real combat performance is within threshold.
Seems to have an unusual fixation on her assigned captain, Scora. So far Cpt. Scora has reciprocated. While Scoria's competence as a captain is dubious, she is the only one that Aonia works effectively with. It is advised that they be kept together.
Her pleasure and bonding centers are more developed than would be expected in a military AI of her age. No signs of illegal tampering found. Regardless, it is advised that she be monitored for rules of engagement subversion.

I was going to say she looks downright intimidating in this one!
Is she a warship or a heavily-armed civilian ship? And so there are other arctic-fox AI's out there, what other species are used? And is a designation or was it a scanned and upgraded actual arctic fox brain as the first AI?
This is such a neat story-universe! Though this is a little concerning, "it is advised that she be monitored for rules of engagement subversion" - what happens if she is deemed to have subverted them?

You should be! is probably what she would say. She is a warship through and through. Though by nature of her role, she definitely bares a resemblance to a civilian ship. Drone carriers are meant to hang back and attack their enemies at range with a swarm of drones. They are very lightly armored, and instead rely on their point defense systems to protect them from missiles and other drones that might close the gap. They also favor efficiency over speed and maneuverability.
The other type of large combat ship are gunships. Those are heavily armored, big gunned, big engined, beasties that get right into the thick of it. They are usually armed with aggressive MANI-7A "panther" minds. I'm sure some of Aoina's crew theorize that she is a miss-placed panther.
So there you have it. Other species are fair game, though perhaps favoring mammals. I think I've got notes on a smaller civilian freighter with a "rabbit" type ai. Also yes there are multitude of arctic foxes out there. Possibly one species for each type and or generation. Predators for warships, and herbivores for civilian ships.
"And is a designation or was it a scanned and upgraded actual arctic fox brain as the first AI?"
I was thinking just designation, with the sentient ais being inspired by human minds, hence the vestigial pleasure centers she hooked into that were left over from that legacy. I do like that idea though. It would add a little excuse to have them behave a bit like their animal inspiration.

Really glad to hear you like my creation! Also yes, it is a bit. I'm sure she's not happy about it ether. The idea is that humans have pretty recently reached the singularity, and are still pretty paranoid. There's a number of things ai ships can't do without their captain's permission, such as engaging their warp drives and firing on targets. It's not like the culture series where minds have pretty much free reign. I haven't decided yet what the punishment is. Depends how evil or not the USF turns out to be I suppose. It's definitely considered a pretty major infraction though.

Ah I see, that all makes sense, thanks! What is the relationship between humans and AI's in general? Do humans view AI's as people or as just tools to be used, and I really hope the USF are the good guys, but then I like it when people get along ;) And how do AI's view humans?
Very cool. But then, I have a soft spot for any kind of ship that's large enough to fit my home town inside it. Especially warships. Are those rings indicative of Alcubierre-warp like in a lot of spaceship designs, or are they habitation rings? I don't see much in the way of radiators. What does she use for heat management? Please forgive these design questions. I just really like the way she looks and instantly want to know more of how she operates.
No I appreciate the design questions! We definitely share a lot of knowledge on this ship design philosophy. Yes those rings are her warp drive, and definitely meant to be alcubierre-warp like. I want to have my own rules for how warp drives work though.
As for cooling her "profile view" doesn't do a very good job at showing off her radiators. Her largest are two at the back to cool her engines. 4 for her reactors just fore of the warp drive(I think I forgot one of them in this image xwx) and two at the front for weapons and miscellaneous hull systems. She's not meant for sustained gun fights, and her large railguns are there for last resort so she really does not have as many big reactors, and therefor cooling as her gunship counterparts might. Also she's really bulky to fit a hollow hull full of fuel and drones, so her body is going to look a little oversized for her radiators. Otherwise, I'm ultimately an artist, and picked what I thought looked right with the available excuse of more advanced radiator technology x3

So drone carriers are the ol' 'kick the tires and light the fires of the future (because drones can cope with the heavy turning-and-burning of getting into a furball?)
Are the drones individual 'Not-so-smart' AI? or are they essentially limited-focused copies (without all the loveable quirks and ideosynracies) of the ship which bears them, injected into an AI core before launch?
