Portrait of Teodor Krula, President of the Baresian People's Republic from 1963 until 1996. After the Baresian Spring in 1959, he was chosen as the Minister of Interior before eventually weaselling his way into the presidency and the seat of the General Secretary of the Baresian People's Party in 1963. His early days in office were characterised by typical authoritarianism and preference for the military, but by the 1970s, he initiated some political and economic liberalisation.
