Ok I shit I think I understand now, We have to shoot it enough times that the power it is trying to contain hits critical then hide just before it fires off at us. so we need to shoot again then hopefully hide from it successfully afterward as I think it will fire off a bolt.
so in shot we: shoot then if the accumulated energy looks like it is about to fire off at us we hide, if not shoot again.
