An uncharacteristic early spring had come to the lands to the north. Snow was the typical sight in the foothills below the mountains and the realm of perpetual winter, there were but a few short months each year where the hardy plants that tolerated the conditions could sprout and come into bloom, bringing splashes of color to an otherwise sea of green pines. But this year, it seemed that winter would give way to spring for a strangely mild start to the year. Just as suddenly as spring had seemed to tentatively show its head, winter had returned to show it was far from finished with these lands. Overnight a steady fall of snow had descended to blanket the land. Frozen needles weighed down the trees, seemingly hunkered for warmth amidst the sudden cold. As the snow began to slow and the clouds to clear, the fading rays of the setting sun create a dazzling and magical display of hues of pink and purple as they catch the rolling frozen mist. Spring will come to the north soon enough, but for the time being, winter still claims these lands.
