Chapter 15 - Clear My Name
<<< PREV | FIRST | NEXT >>>
Flopsy works with the others to try to get a sense of "who she was", but comes to the decision that the answer is "Stop trying to erase me to bring her back". Sure, it's not what they were intending, but it can be hard to deal with. It can be overwhelming for the hoofbun.
It's been building for a while, but the guilt finally got too much for Flopsy to handle. Poor girl, she can't hold it back anymore. Thankfully, she's got an ally within the system to be able to help her with the process of turning herself in.
And hey, why not get a double deal on name-clearing? A certain bartender needs to stop spreading lies.

Flopsy (or rather, the human whose soul ended up in Flopsy) had my physical pain, the nerve damage that's caused severe and constant abdominal pain in the lower right area. She didn't have close friends or family to stick around for, so she gave up. So less "from my past" and more "from my present", for the last ten years and for the rest of my life.
Princess didn't have the physical pain, but she had all the isolation and loneliness I had as a teenager. Because she never was able to figure herself out and get to know herself, nobody else was ever really able to get to know her either. She spent her whole life being unable to do more than lurk online, never able to speak up and make friends.
Chaos/Unmaker Storms did, on some level, start out as a metaphor for or at least being inspired by the Storm of depression, a dark wall that surrounds you on all sides, where you can't see out and you can't hear anyone trying to reach you. A Storm where you risk losing yourself. You might come out the other side different, like I did as a teenager. You might not come out at all, if it's exceptionally bad or catches you at a bad time. It worked out "well" for Princess and Flopsy, sure, but that's the exception and not the rule.
All three stories have main characters based on me, and to an extent, they're all also escapist fantasy/wish fulfillment. Princess is "What if I never got over the denial that almost killed me as a teenager?" and "I want to be able to have a life where I can be a loving and loved pet, and help my Owner." Flopsy is "I have to be useful to be liked/tolerated/allowed to exist" and "With my personalities, but not my memories, how much of Me is still intact?" Vayryn is "Me, as I am now, but yinglet" (though rewound to "before I made a yinglet character", and then tweaked to remove the awareness of being nonhuman. She didn't really have species dysphoria before, but she didn't really feel any attachment to humanity either, just taking it as "default, can't be changed, so why even think about it?" Now that she's gotten used to being a yinglet, she's been finding herself enjoying it more than she expected, a growing sense of "right-ness" that she never felt as a human.)
Falk is mostly nice, but he doesn't really trust Flopsy, not completely. But he probably doesn't trust anyone completely. Especially not otherworldly nonhumans with super powers who aren't following the law, even if they ARE doing good. Because they're only doing good so far. Who watches the watchmen? Who flopses the Flopsies? (Wait, that doesn't really work, does it? ^_^;; )
