Back when I first introduced Cassandra of Plodius (https://www.furaffinity.net/view/42480645/), a viewer (who wanted to stay anonymous) expressed a great interest in her, some of my other characters, and the world they live in. Over the course of talking with them, we built upon the storyline where Guan Riyin was captured by bandits and escaped with Sal'tasnon's help (https://www.furaffinity.net/view/43742109/). After they escaped to a remote island, they had a night of passion.

And nine months later, Guan had a baby boy. Still being very new and uncertain about her life moving forward, Guan felt wholly unequal to raising a child, and she and Sal'tasnon decided that he would raise the kid. He found a ship, found a first mate in Ophelia Wilder, assembled a crew, and in short order, was raising young Dye Lan as a pirate. Dye Lan is a brave and adventurous boy, growing into a capable sea hand.

Then we wondered about how he'd grow up, which led to a discussion about his grown-up self co-existing with his kid self. We floated the likes of magical aging and Jusenkyo curses around. Eventually, I decided to go with a time travel angle.

Future Dye Lan came back in time for reasons unknown (but not related to Cada and Pipa's home timeline). All we know is that he still has his father's spirit-capturing sword.
