In case you were wondering, 'ortho' is short for orthographic view. That means it's being shown from the exact side, front, back, top, etc.
I decided to post this up because A) I think it came out rather well, and B) to dispel the idea that I won't be drawing anymore. The truth is that I will be drawing, possibly more; it will just be an a manner that works towards the final 3D product.
In my head, for some reason this seems to work. Even though I'm doing more work, I'm enjoying it more, so it ends up seeming (at least to me) like a better end result.

DaveC. He's the one doing all the flash programming and website designing that's going into my reinvention of myself as an artist, so I decided that he should also be a test subject. Also it's nice to get started on a dragon, since at least this one has no fur. Fur is an incredibly tough thing to get right in 3D, even if you're not trying to make it hyper-realistic; so this will help me define the style that I'll try to replicate when I do have to add in the fur.

Looks very cool :)
I could almost see this being a very refined, technical, piece of character concept art for a 3D artist actually (and that's kind of the idea with this I think).
Are you hoping to eventually see some 3D furry related commissions? I imagine the hobby and school side of your 3D work wouldn't involve things of that sort too often.
And the best way to get fur is for it to be handled on the render process somehow, it's not usually something that's best done actually modeled except for big obvious patches of it like a tail. Horse does this, though I'm not too fond of his fur personally (just feels too fake and unnatural) though not saying his work is bad per say.
