The idea of the wedding ceremony is that the two hyenas are proclaiming to the clan that they agree to cohabit, care for each other, and that the make submits to the female. The female indicates that she places her trust in the male. He becomes her liege man for life, and she will mate only with him. She will take care of him. They have the acknowledgement of their chiefess (or superior officer.)
Since there is no divorce in Crocutan culture, it is presumed that two hyenas deciding to get married have given it much thought--they will be stuck with each other for life if they make a rash decision. And hyenas are not known for their impulse control.
Because this is a dynastic marriage, and one contracted by the "parents" of the couple, it's a bit more formal than the usual ceremony. As a future Duchess, her Sire Consort must be trustworthy; and Lucretia Kruger wants to make sure that her son will be the father of all pups born in the marriage, so that she gets the royal blood she needs to elevate Kruger to a fifth Duchy.
