I've been wanting to post this picture for some time, and so I thought I'd follow the automotive memorial to an old friend with another automotive-themed piece in a cheerier sort of vein.
I took this one at the car show here in town a couple of years ago. I thought it was cute that the field organizer put my folks' vehicles together, considering how different they are. It's a neat little reflection of them as people, in a way. Dad likes Fords, and Mom likes Chevrolets. That alone can make for a Hatfield and McCoy-style feud ha! I'm glad that I like Mopars...
Dad's car is a 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 with a 351 Cleveland engine and a Hurst 4-speed shifter. He got this car when I was three years old; I don't remember a time when this car wasn't around. It wasn't always this nice...when I was a pup it was green with really goofy-looking wheels. Dad eventually had it restored to its original specs, including the factory white/black colour scheme.
Mom's truck is a 1968 Chevrolet C-10 with a 305 Stovebolt engine and a 3-on-the-tree standard transmission. It came from the factory with an optional heater. That was all. No radio, A/C or cruise control. No power steering, brakes or anything. The bench seat could have been pulled out of an old green school bus for all the comfort it offers.
For Mom and me, it's this truck's spartan, no-frills character that gives it its charm. That, and its glorious original Seafoam Green paintwork...I love that colour! It's the fourth Chevy pickup that Mom's owned over the years; she started with a black 1981 and kept going back in model years to a red 1977 and a tan 1972 before finally getting this one.
Another automotive Crossfolf Camera Presentation.

My oldest brother's first car, aside from the family '56 Plymouth Dad bought for Mom to learn to drive (and she never got her license) was was a 1962 Chevy Impala, white with a red interior. My middle brother's first ride was a '53 Ford F-100. It was a retired Bell System Long Lines pickup; painted pale green but the interior was still olive drab.
I drove a '65 Plymouth Sport Fury from college into my first job. Every driver in the family used it at one time or another. My middle brother bought it from his employer, an AMC dealer, for $40 as a trade-in. Baby sister got a '71 Volkswagen Squareback she drove through college, buying the first of a long line of Subarus when she graduated.
