Mwahahaha! Oh... er I had a creative streak after summiting a livejournal post and simply had to draw out my own little utopian island. This is just for art's sake mind you and it'll go into scraps real soon.
*Get ready for long description*
Welcome to the Principality of Ta-Shu, which would likely be located off of Florida's shore in the Gulf of Mexico... miles beyond American territorial waters and contiguous zones. It's construction is based on that of oil rigs, with concepts of Gravity Base Structure and concrete pillings giving it support. The resulting platform will provide a foundation for an artificial island. The name "Ta-Shu" is made from Ancient Egyptian, it should mean "Free Land." Government will be libertarian and without a central figure in power (That's why it isn't named after me, I'd just be another citizen.)
*Notes in the drawing from top right to bottom left*
*"Ta-Shu" and hieroglyphics
*"Market Square" for local trading, based on barter system
*"Chapel" for all religions
*"Solar Powerplant" for electricity, The Gulf of Mexico is close enough to the equator for a considerable amount of solar energy.
*"Swimming pool" for recreation
*""Ballroom" Extra space for a variety of reasons, special acoustics allow use as an auditorium
*"To underground warehouse" Utilitarian features are mostly located underground.
*"Rightwing Apartments" Highrise luxury townhouses for the citizens... actually this is the left isn't it? Ah well, properly it would be "west" anyways
*"Sculpture Garden" Gounds of the living area have lots of botanical gardens and areas to display local 3D art.
*"Leftwing Apartments" More townhouses
*"Gallery and Library" As you can see learning and the arts have much accommodation here.
*"Fresh Water Lagoon" Clean waterhole and cistern for all life on the island, hopefully suitable for swimming too. It also has an underground water treatment facility and pump. It provides clean drinking water and keeps the lake healthy, powered by it's own solar panels.
*Residential and agricultural zones, land reserved for farming and builing of houses.
*"The Palace" What I call this entire living structure, it's appearance will be based on Knossos of the Ancient Minoan civilization.
*"Natural Reserve" a tropical island paradise protected from development, plenty of animals to roam about and a haven for migrating birds.
*"Bridge/Arch" makea an impressive entrance for visitors and locals alike.
*"Pier" fishing pier and marina sense most of the residents will have boats (and we'd likely need to travel back to the states for supplies)
*"Docks" Another place for boats to anchor
*"Artificial Reef" The oil rig-like platform the island sits on, will me submerged and hopefully attract fish and coral. A developing coral reef would provide protection for the island and might even allow it to grow.
*"Beach" Well yeah I want to have a beach, otherwise what's the point of an island?
Who knows, even if the island doesn't get built (which believe me, it likely won't ever) "Ta-shu" might turn into some fun micronation concept, I'm eccentric enough to do that yes?

micronations are awesome.
When i was a kid i used to make all these elabourate plans and maps of a place i wanted to build with huge concrete walls on a shallow spot in the atlantic ocean. Hah, but yeah... building above the ocean on pylons is surely a much better idea than building below sea level, between walls, and pumping the water out ;p
