Apparently, I didn't post this one back in Feb. when I took the photo. Better late than never.
Basic Salisbury Steak
1.5lbs ground beef
1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
1/2 cup chopped onions
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
2 cup beef broth
2 cups sliced mushrooms (fresh is better then canned, but use what you have)
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
4 Tablespoons corn starch
1/3 cup water (or a little more if necessary)
Combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, chopped onion, egg, salt and pepper in a bowl. Mix by hand until well blended. Shape into 6 patties, roughly a half inch thick.
Fry the patties on medium heat in a large skillet until browned (roughly 10 minutes).
Add the broth, Worcestershire sauce, and mushrooms to the skillet. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
Transfer the patties to a plate and tent with foil to keep them warm (I stick the plate in my oven on the lowest setting).
Bring shroom/broth to a boil. Combine cornstarch with water until dissolved. Add to shroom/broth. Cook and stir until thickened into gravy, roughly a minute or so.
Ladle over patties to serve. As you can see, we like to serve this with smashed potatoes (with extra grave on them) and peas.
