Mer-May TF Story: Ch. 1 - An Aquatic Annoyance
Ryan wakes suddenly, the rumbling sound of thunder reverberating in his head. As he lazily rubs his eyes he peeks at the clock on his phone while he is at it, listening to the rain melodically drumming on the windows of his apartment.
The clock shows 7:36AM and he planned to sleep in originally. However he isn’t annoyed at the rude awakening, since he enjoys rain, thunder and lightning quite a lot.
Hopping out of bed, he slouches over to the bathroom, splashing some water on his face.
As he looks at the bathroom mirror, he sees the same old familiar face.
Ryan is a 25 year old man living on his own, with shoulder-length brown hair that had a slight curl at the tips.
Decorating his face is a full beard, giving him somewhat of a wild appearance.
After he finishes an excursion to the bathroom, he heads to the living room, taking a look at the world outside. Judging by the sound, the rain is still falling, but the thunder seems to have subsided.
Contemplating for a bit, he decides to go for a swim at the local lake after having breakfast.
He makes sure to take stock of everything he needs for his little trip, then sets off in his car.
Unsurprisingly, the lakeshore is empty, save for a few people taking a walk, so he chooses a spot near the shallows to spread a blanket, strips down to his swim trunks and wades into the frigid water.
Shivering and bearing it at first, then slowly getting used to it, he swims out a bit, relaxing and floating on the surface on his back. The sun has made an appearance as well, so he was happy to have made the trip.
After a few minutes, he was getting ready to head back to shore and read the novel he found a few weeks ago, but the decision would be made for him.
Unbeknownst to Ryan, just below him, a creature stirs, not all too happy about a human being near it. Its dark blue scales glistening in the dim sunlight, it readies to attack the intruder.
Ryan flips around, swimming over to shore as he notices a stinging pain on his belly.
Startled, he exclaims “Shit, what was that?”, accelerating his pace and arriving on shore at last. He grabs a towel, and examines the source of the sudden pain. He finds a small cut, just below his belly button, that is lightly bleeding. “Damn, I wonder what that thing was.”, he inquired.
He decides to shorten his trip, so he dries himself up and heads home again.
After he arrives and chucks his belongings into a corner, he immediately heads to the showers. While undressing, he notices an itching sensation just where he was wounded and thought “It’s probably just healing”, paying it no further mind.
Stepping into the shower, and having water rush all over his body, the itching worsens, resulting in him rubbing along the cut. What he didn’t notice at that point were small, iridescent speckles growing below the cut, hardening into what could only be described as scales.
The scales continue growing below the wound, covering a small area until he finally notices. First unsure if something had stuck to him, he tries rubbing it away, only to have his fingers glide over the slick scales. He looks down, and with visible shock, tries to pull at one of the scales, which results in him crying out in pain and muttering "Fuck, what is this?", with panic in his voice.
Ryan steps out of the shower to examine the strange scaly patch in a mirror, noticing that only a small area below the cut is affected. The scales almost appear to shine in a brilliant purple color.
Countless thoughts race through his mind. "It must be some kind of allergic reaction! What if it doesn't stop? Is this permanent?"
After a period of poking and prodding, he notices a creeping rush of euphoria when he touches the scales, not thinking much of it at the moment.
He decides to not tell anybody of what he experienced today and lays down on the sofa after putting on some clothes. "It's no use to continue panicking.", he exclaimed, and fell asleep within minutes.
When Ryan awakes, the patch of scales is gone, but he is convinced that all that really happened. The cut was proof of that.
Outside his windows, the rain was back in full force, whipping at the window accompanied by strong gusts.
But his mind is occupied with other matters…
