So I was watching BSG Miniseries on Netflix and something caught my eye. Seems I found A firefly class ship. Thus further proving that I am the BIGGEST NERD EVA!

Funny that you should spot it... Jay Rod and his CG effects team are responsible for that and other little cameos. I'll tell you the story.
A good friend of mine used to work for the company that makes my favorite animation software, NewTek. She took me and another friend on a tour of their facility and introduced us to a lot of the staff. One of the people on this staff that makes a lot of their content goes by the nickname J-Rod. He's responsible for most of the work that went into modeling the Serenity, and many of the ships in Battlestar Galactica and Caprica. He told us this story...
Often in CG animation, time saving shortcuts have to be used in order to meed deadlines and cut back on production costs. One of their favorite shortcuts is reusing the material they already have. In some scenes of these shows, you may want to take a closer look at some of the ship debris, because you might find familiar parts. Well, J-Rod's team were working on a scene in the TV show Caprica and needed to fill it in with ship traffic at a spaceport. Running short on time, and feeling like pranksters, they put the Serenity in the shot in such a way that only they would notice it. Wrong. The Executive Producer saw it when the episode aired. A week or so later, in the post-production building, the exec shows up at J-Rod's desk.
"I saw what you did with the Serenity. What made you think that was a good idea?", asks the producer.
J-Rod told us he kept the joke rolling, "Well, they were on a mission to deliver supplies from another colony, yanno."
The producer had a very serious face. "Do you have any IDEA how much trouble we're in. This is a copyright lawsuit waiting to happen!" J-Rod gets really nervous and tries to come up with an excuse. After a very awkward silence, the producer smiles really big, "naw I'm just kidding with you! I thought it was clever."
At this point J-Rod exhaled a sigh of relief so big he just wanted to punch they dude in the arm for scaring him.
True story.
