It's another "Oops, I have once again watched an old cult classic movie and now I can't stop thinking about it!" episode.
Watched Tron for the first time the other day and at first I legit thought it was my lack of intelligence for being confused by what was going on, but apparently most people were. Despite the plot being hard to understand a bit at first, it still really sucked you in. You really wanted to know what was going on and what's going to happen next. I had those same feelings when I watched Donnie Darko for the first time (lowkey obsessed with that movie too a bit). I really liked it though. I feel like I missed out a bit as I was watching it while working on commissions so I want to sit down at some point soon and genuinely watch it.
Just a shame about my favorite character in the film... He was really nice but also cool and since it's an 80's movie he had to die. I was sad for the rest of the movie even though I knew he was going to be pushing up daisies at any minute. ;_; Tron and Flynn had to be the main stars.
Another thing, I just really liked how programs were personified into actual beings, I'm always a sucker for that sort of thing. I liked they used more, uh, "technological" phrases in speaking too:
"I've been stuck here for 200 microcycles."
"Who does he calculate he is?!"
100% charming, lol.
A damn shame the movie came out too early, they should've waited at least a decade or so and it would've been received a little better. :\
Guess I'll be watching Tron: Legacy soon as well.
Ah, one more thing... The song "End Of Line" by Daft Punk, is what actually made me check out the movie finally. I knew of the movie's existence since Kingdom Hearts but I was never interested in it until I heard that song for some reason, which is funny because it's from the second movie. It goes hard, been listening to it on repeat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOMa56y_Was
Alright, I'm done rambling like a maniac.

I think Tron came out at pretty much the only time it could have. It was only a few years later that the Mac and Amiga came along and got people to start thinking of files and programs as pieces of paper and office supplies on a desk; representing them as people in glowing suits running through CG hallways would have probably made things even more confusing.
Also I'd completely forgotten they used the word "microcycle" and now I'm just laughing because a "cycle"—assuming it means a clock cycle—is already pretty much the smallest unit of time measurement inside a computer. And it is not very long at all.
