This week's page of Peter & Company almost wasn't meant to be. A sudden ink spill caused almost half the page to be ruined. I was able to salvage two panels, with the third having to be completely redrawn.
I have always loved the feel of traditional drawing techniques. No matter what your chosen or preferred medium, however, you always run the risk of having these sort of tragedies occurring to your work. Photoshop can crash or corrupt your save file, the ink can spill, paint can smear or drip unintentionally, and it always ends up with additional work having to get done to catch up to where you were. Such is the hazard of being an artist, but it comes with the territory. There’s no use crying over it when it happens; just take a brief break to recompose yourself, take a deep breath, and get right back on that horse. The silver lining is that 99% of the time your second attempt at drawing the same panel will end up looking even better than the original.
Regardless, I’ll always embrace traditional inking with a brush, but man… the ink can be a harsh and cruel mistress sometimes.
Just thought I would upload this real quick as a public service message for all my fellow artists on here. I like highlighting the results of human error just as much as the finished product. When mistakes are this big, they should be showcased.

Ohhhhh yeah, it DOES kinda look like a raven, doesn't it? Huh.
Thanks! I have thought of scanning my pencils every so often to let people see how I draw them, but I also draw these live most of the time on the Inking Room, so I guess both ways work. This ink spill actually happened on live cam, too, so people got to witness my horror as it happened. Fun!

Step back from it for a moment, I think it was a good idea that you took this picture. The ink spill couldn't have had landed in a better spot. With Peter freaking out and the comment bubble coming with a tone of emergency, it looks as if Peter spilled the ink or he may have saw the spill coming. Now I know it was an accident, but with some abstract thinking (and I blame my design teacher for always making me think this way), the spill does seem to have a sense of purpose. I don't know, maybe it's just me, how ever it is, I just thought I would point that out. And yeah, it TOTALLY sucks to have this happen, it's nice to see that there' s someone that shows that even the best of artists goof up sometimes.
shit fire.... i hate it when that happens with my art, i can hardly ever recreate it in the first place, with me, the first one is the best, always was, ugh, so i feel like stabbing someone with my pencil when that happens, someone did it on purpose once, i almost went mental and stabbed them with my pencil XD
