This was a sketch I did way back in 2005 using a mechanical pencil on some old sketch book paper I had laying around. I remember feeling this was the best piece I had drawn up to that point, but I then stopped drawing altogether. I still have the original tucked away in a folder along with other random drawings I've done, and this piece still holds a fond place in my heart even if it's from a version of myself that has long-since changed and matured. In a way, it seemed like the perfect drawing to rework. I limited myself to more demure body language and faces in the figures I drew back then, and I knew right away when I started drawing again that I wanted to try and chip away at that habit.
This character never had a backstory or setting she belonged to; I just sat down and drew a stick figure and kept adding details until she eventually came to be. I wasn't thinking about practicality; just whatever looked interesting on her frame, and that goes for the scythe as well. Not sure how practical of a weapon it is, but younger me thought it looked cool and that's all that matters in the end.
