Making merry with drinking the mead and now made merry some more with having your bare feet tickled, perhaps what the monk would consider a fair and just punishment for such a demeanour. Though depending on how much mead you'd drunk, might have been you'd have been stumbling around and making quite a bit of noise or ended up falling asleep, so might have been inevitable to get caught.
