Mayotte is a volcanic archipelago and French overseas territory located in the Mozambique Channel, between Africa and Madagascar. It consists of two islands: Grande Terre and Petite-Terre, the other smaller islands are basically atolls, but this archipelago draws a lot of attention when seen by submarine radars, as the archipelago is located on a gigantic underwater volcanic caldera, whose last eruption occurred in 2019, creating new undersea lava flows above older solidified lava flows. There were no deaths, as the underwater eruptions were too small to cause any deaths.
